An official list of the nations
that participated in the Battle of Cassino has never been
made. Today this task would be even more difficult for the
numerous geo-political changes occurred all over the world.
In December 1993 the Veterans of Montecassino Association
has been kindly requested to carry out a brief research on
the argument. The president Roy Quintino answered: “As
per your request, here it is the list of the nations that
participated in the battle of Cassino:
UNITED STATES – GERMANY –
POLAND – GREAT BRITAIN – FRANCE-ITALY - NEW ZEALAND
– CANADA – SOUTH AFRICA – INDIA –
CEYLON – BATUSOLAND – SWAZILAND – BECHUANALAND
– SEYCHELLES – MAURITIUS - RODRIGUEZ ISLANDS -
WEST INDIES – CYPRUS NEPAL BELGIUM GREECE BRASIL SYRIA-LEBANON
– YUGOSLAVIA - BRITISH MANDATED TERRITORY OF PALESTINA
( Hebrews)
The problem is that the political map has much changed since
then. Instead of Jugoslavia, for instance, there are to be
found Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia; instead of Jugoslavia,
for instance, Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia; and instead
of British Palestina today is to be found the State of Israel.
With regard to the African tribes (Basutoland, Swaziland,
Bechuanaland) I think that will do to replace them with the
modern nations: Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabue, Tanzania etc.”
